What a fun and festive evening we had on Tuesday 3 December thinking about ways to have a greener and more sustainable Christmas. Thanks so much to everyone who came to our last Climate Hub event of the year.
We enjoyed making our own decorations using materials from nature - thank you for your expertise and inspiration, Hil, Forest School leader at the local after school club. We also had a go with different sustainable gift wrapping options, giving us lots of ideas for making our presents look good as well as being more sustainable.
We were also joined by Sophie from the West Sussex CC waste prevention team so we were able to ask all of our questions about reducing waste and recycling this Christmas. Sophie shared some alarming facts including that Christmas creates an estimated extra 3 million tonnes of waste each year in the UK, but also left us with the positive message that all of the small changes we make do add up and make a real difference, and importantly, will also help to get the message out to our friends and families. Don't worry if you couldn't join us on the night, there are lots of great tips in these articles from West Sussex Recycles and the WWF-UK on everything from choosing gifts and hosting parties to making decorations and reducing food waste.
Finally, thank you to Rach at Proper Cycling and Coffee for hosting and for warming us up with her very delicious mulled wine!
