We would like to say a big thank you to Thirza from Zero Hub in Burgess Hill for coming to lead an interesting and informative discussion about sustainable homes on Tuesday October 8 2024.
We looked at both the general and the specific, at what we mean by 'sustainable', the complexities of navigating these topics and the emotions it might bring up, as well as discussing specific products, particularly around cleaning, and how changing the way we buy, such as using refills, can reduce our plastic waste.
We were amazed to learn that you can clean almost anything in your home with just four magic ingredients: vinegar, citric acid, bicarbonate of soda and oxygen bleach.

There was also an emphasis on progress over perfection and an appreciation that time, complexity and cost can all get in the way of making sweeping changes, but we all came away from the evening with an enthusiasm to try at least one different approach or product and armed with enough information to make these changes simple and attractive.
It's great to know there are organisations out there like Zero Hub, a not-for-profit that focuses on environmental and other ethical concerns in its buying choices. Do pop in if you’re in the area or follow them on Facebook or Instagram. And feel free to ask questions – Thirza and the other staff there are very knowledgeable about the products they stock and will be happy to help you find lifestyle solutions that work for you.
